Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Event Manager (Civic Engagement) to join our established events team on a fixed-term basis. This role plays a central part in shaping and delivering a programme of high-quality civic and global engagement events that strengthen the University’s connections with alumni, partners, communities and stakeholders.

Working alongside a wider team of event professionals, you will take ownership of multiple projects simultaneously, from concept through to delivery and evaluation. You will also support the planning and delivery of larger, high-profile events such as graduations (UK and overseas), alumni reunions and international receptions.

A key aspect of the role is the line management of an Events Coordinator (Grade 4), supporting their development while ensuring operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Lead the design and delivery of a portfolio of civic and global engagement events, ensuring they are impactful, inclusive and aligned with institutional priorities

  • Plan, manage and evaluate event activity, budgets, timelines and resources across multiple projects
  • Contribute to the delivery of major University events, including overseas alumni receptions and graduation ceremonies
  • Build strong working relationships with internal teams, senior stakeholders and external partners
  • Line manage and support an Events Coordinator, providing clear direction and professional development
  • Ensure events comply with relevant health and safety, accessibility and public events guidance, including:
  • Review event outcomes and impact, using feedback and data to inform continuous improvement

About You

You will be a confident and organised events professional with at least five years’ experience delivering complex events or programmes. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities while remaining calm and solutions-focused.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Strong project management and organisational skills
  • The ability to manage your own workload and support others when required
  • Clear, professional communication with colleagues, managers and stakeholders
  • Experience leading or mentoring others
  • An understanding of inclusive and accessible event delivery, aligned with public sector expectations
