About the Role
The University of Reading is seeking a highly motivated Energy Analyst to join its award-winning Sustainability and Decarbonisation team within Estates. This is an exciting opportunity to use your analytical expertise to help drive measurable reductions in energy consumption, operational costs, and carbon emissions across a complex and dynamic organisation.
In this role, you will take the lead on monitoring and reporting energy and utilities data, analysing trends, and verifying savings achieved through energy, carbon, and travel initiatives. Your work will directly support the University’s long-term sustainability and decarbonisation ambitions, helping translate data into meaningful environmental impact.
You will work closely with colleagues across the wider Sustainability team, contributing to institution-wide programmes that support progress towards net-zero and responsible energy management.
Key Responsibilities
As Energy Analyst, you will:
- Lead the monitoring, analysis, and reporting of energy and utilities consumption
- Track and verify carbon emissions and savings across University operations
- Support energy, carbon, and sustainable travel initiatives through robust data analysis
- Produce clear, accessible reports and dashboards for a range of audiences
- Apply recognised energy management and measurement techniques to validate performance
- Ensure compliance with relevant public sector energy and carbon legislation
About You
We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, analytical, and passionate about sustainability.
You will bring:
- Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis and graphical presentation
- Experience in an analytical, energy, or sustainability-focused role
- Confidence presenting complex technical data to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Knowledge of energy monitoring, measurement, and verification methodologies
- Understanding of energy and carbon legislation relevant to the public sector
- Experience working in large or complex organisations will be an advantage, but enthusiasm and the ability to turn data into insight are just as important.
