About the Role

The University of Reading invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to join our Global Academy on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a globally-focused, dynamic teaching community, supporting international students across all disciplines and stages of study.

The role is teaching-intensive and may involve delivery across several programme areas:

  • International Foundation Pathways
  • Home Foundation Year
  • Pre-Sessional English Programmes
  • Academic English Programmes
  • Short Courses

Additionally, the role may include module convening responsibilities and opportunities to contribute to EAP assessment development and administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate high-quality EAP teaching and academic study skills sessions.
  • Design and develop materials for general and discipline-specific In-sessional provision.
  • Engage with students to support their language development and academic literacy.
  • Contribute to assessment processes, including test design and administration where applicable.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the Global Academy and wider University.
  • Participate in scholarship of teaching and learning related to EAP.

About You

We are seeking an enthusiastic and student-focused lecturer with:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or EAP.
  • Ideally, a Level 7 teaching qualification (e.g., DELTA, DipTESOL, PGCE).
  • Experience teaching EAP and academic literacy in multiple contexts.
  • Proven ability to design and develop engaging learning materials.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • An active interest in teaching excellence and EAP scholarship.
