About the Role

The University of Reading invites applications for an enthusiastic and proactive Doctoral Training Administration Manager to support the Mathematics for our Future Climate (MFC) PhD programme. This exciting initiative is a collaboration between the University of Reading, Imperial College London
and the University of Southampton
aiming to use mathematical research to address urgent climate change challenges.

You will take the lead in the operational management of the MFC programme, working closely with administrators at partner institutions and the Centre Directors. This is a campus-based role requiring presence Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with occasional travel to Imperial College London and the University of Southampton.

This role offers the opportunity to:

  • Innovate and enhance programme activities.
  • Develop new administrative practices.
  • Engage directly with PhD students, academic staff, and support teams.
  • Liaise with external organisations involved in climate research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day administration of the MFC PhD programme.
  • Coordinate activities and communications with partner universities and internal stakeholders.
  • Organise events, including conferences, workshops, and seminars.
  • Monitor budgets and produce reports on expenditure.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide high-quality committee servicing.
  • Support programme development and implement new administrative processes.
  • Provide guidance and support to students and staff regarding programme requirements.

Person Specification

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisation and project management skills.
  • Proficient in budget monitoring and financial reporting.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Experience in committee support and event organisation.
  • Strong IT literacy and ability to adapt to new systems.
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent vocational experience.
  • Prior experience in Higher Education administration.

Desirable:

  • Experience coordinating multi-institutional or collaborative projects.
  • Familiarity with climate research or STEM doctoral training programmes.
