The Role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Financial Control to lead and oversee financial governance across the University and its subsidiaries. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will play a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, ensuring compliance, and supporting long-term financial sustainability.
As a senior member of the Finance Leadership Team, you will provide expert guidance on financial controls and reporting, and lead a high-performing team to deliver accurate and timely financial information that informs key decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee statutory accounts and manage the external audit process
Lead the monthly financial close and reporting cycles
Manage banking and treasury operations
Ensure robust financial controls and operational efficiency
Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
Maintain compliance with tax, regulatory, and reporting requirements
Oversee corporate governance and intercompany arrangements
Engage and influence a range of internal and external stakeholders
Drive a culture of continuous improvement across finance functions
About You
You are a values-driven, qualified finance professional with experience in leading financial control in complex organisations. You combine strong technical knowledge with a collaborative and emotionally intelligent leadership style, capable of managing change and inspiring high-performing teams.
Qualifications and Experience
Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
Relevant degree (or postgraduate qualification preferred)
Significant senior experience in financial control and compliance
Strong background in leadership, systems improvement, and stakeholder engagement
