About the Role
Are you a creative and skilled social media video producer with a passion for storytelling, culture, and heritage? We are seeking a Digital Content Producer to help bring the stories and collections of two vibrant museums to life through engaging short-form video content.
This role supports both The Museum of English Rural Life (The MERL) and Reading Museum as part of the Museums Partnership Reading (MPR), an Arts Council England-funded initiative. You will lead the development of content for platforms such as TikTok and Instagram Reels, with a focus on digital storytelling and audience engagement.
You will play a key role in shaping and delivering the partnership’s digital engagement strategy, working alongside marketing and curatorial colleagues to create compelling content that reflects the unique identities of each museum.
Key Responsibilities
Create high-quality short-form video content (primarily for TikTok and Instagram) that aligns with the museums’ voices and values
Develop creative concepts that highlight themes from our collections, exhibitions, and public programmes
Use video and audio equipment to produce, edit, and publish engaging content
Monitor social media trends, platform developments, and audience behaviours to inform strategy
Analyse performance data, produce regular reports for stakeholders, and use insights to refine content strategy
Collaborate with internal teams, including curators, educators, and marketing staff, to ensure alignment across departments
About You – Essential Criteria
Proven experience in producing engaging social media videos, with a strong understanding of digital platforms and internet culture
Ability to identify content opportunities from museum collections and activities
Competence in using professional video and audio recording equipment, and editing software
Demonstrable success in building and maintaining an engaging social media presence
Experience in using analytics tools to track engagement and inform decision-making
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments
Additional Information
This is a full-time, fixed-term role until 31 March 2027
The role is based at the University of Reading (Whiteknights Campus) but will involve working across both museum sites
