About the College of Science and Engineering
The College focuses on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) education and research, working on key areas such as digitization, decarbonization, robotics, renewable energy, advanced materials, and manufacturing. Our Engineering discipline is based at the Markeaton Street STEM annex, with strong industry engagement and research activity.
About the Role
We deliver a wide range of degree apprenticeships across engineering and built environment disciplines, including civil, manufacturing, nuclear, aerospace, and materials science. Around 600 apprentices study with us, working in partnership with major employers such as Rolls-Royce, JCB, Alstom, Parker Meggitt, and Lucideon.
As a Degree Apprenticeship Workplace Reviewer in Engineering, you will:
Conduct tripartite reviews with apprentices and employers, ensuring apprentices integrate academic and professional learning.
Visit employer sites (mainly in the Midlands and sometimes across the UK) to carry out reviews, check progress, and monitor health and safety.
Support apprentices in preparing for their End Point Assessment (EPA) and maintaining their e-portfolio of evidence.
Act as a personal academic tutor, offering pastoral and professional support, including for apprentices with additional needs.
Work closely with academic teams, employers, and the Apprenticeships Hub to maintain high quality standards and compliance with funding and audit requirements.
Produce reports on compliance, retention, and success rates to inform programme monitoring and improvements.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
Holds an Honours degree in Engineering (or a related field).
Has relevant experience in the engineering sector, ideally with apprentices or in an educational context.
Understands current apprenticeship standards (above Level 4), EPA processes, and funding/compliance requirements.
Can demonstrate strong communication, negotiation, and organisational skills.
Is confident working independently, flexible in approach, and able to travel to employer sites when required.
Can effectively support and motivate apprentices to achieve success.
Desirable:
MSc/MEng or equivalent.
Professional registration (IEng or CEng).
Experience managing or supervising staff.
Previous work in higher education or with higher apprenticeships.
Additional Requirements
Enhanced DBS check required.
Flexibility to work evenings/weekends and attend university events (e.g., Open Days, Graduation).
