Role Overview
The University of Sussex is seeking a confident and detail-focused Data and Enquiries Manager to lead the delivery of a responsive, high-quality enquiry service for prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students.
This position combines operational leadership with hands-on involvement, ensuring that prospective students receive accurate, timely information while also using data insights to improve recruitment activity and service performance.
You will oversee a small team responsible for managing enquiries across email and telephone channels, while also shaping data-driven approaches to enhance applicant engagement and institutional decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Lead and support a team delivering consistent, professional responses to applicant enquiries
- Monitor communication quality to ensure accuracy and strong customer experience
- Plan and deliver recruitment initiatives such as call campaigns, outreach activity, and event support
- Oversee registration and data capture processes to ensure records are accurate and securely managed
- Analyse pre-applicant and applicant data from multiple systems to identify trends and opportunities
- Produce clear reports and dashboards to inform senior leaders and support service improvements
- Maintain compliance with data protection and information governance requirements
- Contribute directly to frontline enquiry handling during busy periods

You should be able to demonstrate:
- Confidence working with complex datasets and producing meaningful insights
- Experience supervising or coordinating staff within a service environment
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to communicate clearly with both applicants and senior stakeholders
- Willingness to develop or apply knowledge of UK undergraduate and postgraduate admissions processes
- Practical understanding of data protection responsibilities, including GDPR
- You will be comfortable balancing strategic oversight with day-to-day operational involvement.

This role sits within the Communications, Engagement and Advancement (CEA) Division, which plays a central role in attracting and supporting prospective students while strengthening relationships with partners, alumni, and supporters globally.
The division works closely with academic schools and international partners to support institutional growth, widen participation, and ensure Sussex remains competitive in a global higher-education environment.
