The Role
The University of Reading is seeking a Cook who shares our passion for fresh, nutritious, and sustainable food. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality meals and supporting our Aspiring Chef team, contributing to our mission of creating the best campus dining experience.
Our kitchens operate with daily changing menus based on seasonality, producing dishes from scratch across six outlets, including cafés, bars, dining halls, hotels, and event catering.
We are proud to be the first European member of the Menus of Change Universities Research Collaborative (MCURC), a network of 70 universities committed to advancing health, sustainability, and innovation in food.

Team Structure
You will be part of one of three chef and kitchen porter teams, each led by a Head Chef. Staff are encouraged to rotate across different kitchens to support professional growth and development.
About You
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
Knowledge of food safety regulations and compliance with legislation (fire safety, COSHH, accident procedures).
Basic food safety training (Level 2 or equivalent desirable).
Good communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
Experience in a professional kitchen is preferred, but a positive attitude and willingness to learn are equally important.
