Consultant Psychiatrist – Rehabilitation Service(UK Visa Sponsorship)

Overview

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is expanding its rehabilitation services and is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to play a key role across two areas:

Willow Ward – an 11-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit
Open Mental Health Rehabilitation Team – a developing community-based service

This role combines clinical leadership, service development, and hands-on patient care. It offers flexibility, including the possibility of a four-day working week and some remote working.

What You’ll Be Doing

Clinical Leadership

You will lead care delivery across inpatient and community settings, ensuring high-quality treatment for individuals with complex mental health needs. These may include:

  • Severe and enduring mental illness
    Co-occurring conditions (e.g., substance misuse)
    Neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., autism, ADHD)

Physical health challenges

  • Patient Care
    Manage a caseload across both services
    Act as Responsible Clinician where required
    Provide consultation to partner organisations and teams
    Support safe, coordinated, and person-centred care

Team Collaboration

You’ll work closely with a multidisciplinary team, helping to:

  • Clarify roles and responsibilities
    Promote open communication
    Maintain high standards of safety and governance
    Encourage continuous learning and improvement

Service Development

This role offers the chance to shape and grow rehabilitation services in Somerset, contributing to:

Strategic planning

  • Community mental health transformation
    Quality improvement initiatives
    On-Call Commitment
    1 in 11 rota (optional, not mandatory)
    Weekdays: 5pm – 9am
    Weekends: Saturday 9am – Monday 9am

What We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications

  • Medical degree with Royal College membership (or equivalent)
    Full registration with the GMC and licence to practise
    Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (via CCT or equivalent)

Experience & Skills

  • Strong clinical background in psychiatry
    Ability to work independently and lead teams
    Analytical thinking and decision-making skills
    Interest in a subspecialty that complements the existing team
