About the Role
UHSussex is seeking an experienced Consultant Medical Oncologist with specialist interests in Breast, Acute Oncology (AO), and Lung Cancers. The post is based primarily at Eastbourne District General Hospital, with clinical sessions across East Sussex Healthcare Trust (ESHT) and University Hospitals Sussex sites.
You will join the Sussex Cancer Centre Oncology Service, a collaborative, multi-site team delivering non-surgical oncology care across five hospital locations – Brighton, Haywards Heath, Worthing, Hastings, and Eastbourne – with acute service support also provided in Chichester.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a countywide oncology service, working within an integrated multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred cancer care.
Key Responsibilities
Provide specialist oncology care for patients with breast, lung, and acute oncology presentations.
Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
Prescribe, review, and oversee Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT).
Undertake outpatient clinics, ward reviews, and on-call duties.
Contribute to service development, clinical governance, and audit initiatives.
Supervise and support junior medical staff, nurses, and allied health professionals (AHPs).
Participate in teaching and training of medical students, specialty trainees, and nursing staff.
Engage in research and clinical audit activities, supporting trainees in their projects.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary group comprising clinical oncologists, medical oncologists, pharmacists, specialist nurses, and cancer support workers, ensuring a holistic approach to patient care.
About You
You will be a dedicated and compassionate oncologist with strong leadership, communication, and team-working skills.
Essential Requirements:
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
CCT (or within 6 months of completion) in Medical Oncology.
Demonstrated expertise in the management of breast, lung, and acute oncology patients.
Evidence of teaching and mentoring experience.
Commitment to clinical governance, audit, and continuous improvement.
Desirable:
Participation in clinical research or trials.
Evidence of service innovation or leadership.
Experience working across multiple hospital sites.
