Overview
This is a valuable opportunity for a motivated and forward-thinking Consultant Psychiatrist to play a key role within a newly formed NHS organisation. The position focuses on providing clinical leadership to the Community Adult Learning Disability Service based on the Isle of Wight.
You will be joining a supportive, multidisciplinary team that includes professionals from psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and soon, art therapy. The service works collaboratively with people who have lived experience, as well as wider health and social care partners.
With planned investment into developing an Intensive Support Team, this role offers the chance to contribute to shaping and expanding services for individuals with learning disabilities.
Incentive
A £30,000 Golden Hello payment is available for successful candidates (subject to eligibility criteria), supporting your transition into this important role.
Key Responsibilities
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, your role will involve both clinical leadership and team collaboration. Core responsibilities include:
- Providing senior clinical oversight and contributing to safe, effective patient care
Supporting team members to understand their professional roles and responsibilities
Encouraging a culture of transparency, where challenges and risks are openly discussed
Ensuring clear communication within the team and across partner services
Promoting shared decision-making and inclusive team discussions
Overseeing coordinated care plans so that patients receive consistent, well-managed support
Making sure patients and carers know who to contact for advice or concerns
Establishing systems to identify, assess, and manage risks within the service
Encouraging teamwork, mutual respect, and effective collaboration across disciplines

Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Essential Qualifications and Registration
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent
Eligibility for the Specialist Register, or within 6 months of achieving CCT in Learning Disability Psychiatry
Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act
