This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry to play a pivotal leadership role within a newly formed NHS Trust at a time of transformation. You will help ensure continuity, quality, and safety of services while shaping the future of adult mental healthcare across the Isle of Wight.

The role offers variety, professional autonomy, and the chance to make a tangible impact across inpatient and community pathways, supporting people with the most complex and acute mental health needs.

Golden Hello – £30,000

To support your transition and recognise the importance of this role, the Trust is pleased to offer a £30,000 Golden Hello, payable in four instalments over a two-year period, subject to qualifying conditions.

Your Clinical Leadership Role

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide senior clinical leadership and expert oversight across a range of adult mental health services, which may include:

  • Inpatient mental health services
  • Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment
  • Early Intervention in Psychosis
  • Recovery-focused services
  • Adult (ageless) Community Mental Health Teams

You will work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care aligned with national clinical standards

Key Responsibilities

In this senior role, you will:

  • Lead on the assessment and management of service users with the highest levels of complexity and risk
  • Maintain a focused caseload to allow flexible and responsive input for the most unwell individuals
  • Develop robust biopsychosocial formulations to guide care planning
  • Ensure evidence-based practice and recovery-oriented care across the MDT
  • Provide expert risk assessment and management, supporting teams through clear communication and clinical leadership
  • Work closely with carers, families, and ward teams to support collaborative care
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, care planning, and risk management policies
  • Maintain a strong focus on clinical outcomes and patient experience
  • Deliver supervision, education, and leadership through MDT and triage meetings
  • This work aligns with statutory responsibilities under the Mental Health Act 1983

Essential Qualifications and Registration

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
  • CCT in General Adult Psychiatry, or within 12 months of completion at interview
  • Eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
  • Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act
  • Applicants must also hold current UK professional registration
