Band 6 Complex Care Lead – Children’s Community Nursing

Job Summary:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Children’s Nurse with at least 2 years of post-registration experience in community and complex care to join our established Children’s Community Nursing Team in Solihull.

The successful candidate will possess relevant community and complex care experience, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality care to children in home, school, special school, and local community settings. The role requires good team-working abilities, strong interpersonal skills, and the capacity to manage your own caseload, time effectively, and support junior colleagues with supervision, appraisals, and revalidation.

We are seeking a candidate who is confident and passionate about supporting children with complex health and palliative care needs, helping them achieve their potential, and engaging with and supporting their families. This role also includes contributing to Children’s Continuing Care Assessments, providing training and competency assessments to parents, carers, and team members, and offering staff management and support.

Main Duties, Tasks, & Skills Required:

The role includes contributing to Children’s Continuing Care Assessments, Safeguarding meetings, teaching, competency training, and staff management. The role involves clinical interventions and skills including tracheostomy care, enteral feeding, and epilepsy management. It also includes providing palliative and end-of-life care and participation in a 24-hour on-call rota. Experience in providing care for children with palliative care needs and Advanced Care Planning is essential, and experience in delivering end-of-life care is desirable, with support provided.

As a Care Coordinator, you will be responsible for triaging referrals, allocating clinical caseloads, and supervising junior team members.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

Essential:

Registered Nurse (Learning Disability or equivalent)

Teaching and Assessing Qualification (e.g., SLAIP)

Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Minimum 2 years of community experience

Desirable:

Leadership course

Experience:

Essential:

3 years post-registration experience

Experience working in a multidisciplinary team and in community settings

Proven ability to implement change

Understanding of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults

Knowledge of audit and research, with leadership experience

Experience in teaching and presentations

Experience supervising or mentoring others

Understanding of the Lead Professional role

Desirable:

Experience using Trust IT systems
