Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Community Welfare Officer to lead welfare casework and oversee a team of Community Support Workers delivering front-line support to vulnerable individuals. In this pivotal role, you will manage complex cases, ensure high standards in safeguarding and service delivery, and coordinate multi-agency support for those in need.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out comprehensive assessments of clients’ welfare, housing, and social support needs — including high-risk and complex cases.

Design and manage personalized support plans aimed at achieving long-term, positive outcomes.

Provide expert guidance on welfare rights, housing legislation, and access to statutory and voluntary services.

Line manage a team of Community Support Workers — providing supervision, performance reviews, and professional development.

Review and approve casework, ensuring it meets quality, safeguarding, and regulatory standards.

Coordinate multi-agency responses by working with local authorities, healthcare professionals, housing providers, and other key stakeholders.

Act as the primary escalation point for high-risk or particularly complex cases.

Deliver training sessions to staff and community stakeholders on welfare and safeguarding topics.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and prepare performance reports for management and funding bodies.
Essential Requirements

Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Social Policy, Community Development, or a related discipline — or equivalent experience.

Substantial experience in welfare rights, housing support, community services, or social care — including complex casework management.

Proven experience supervising or managing staff in a welfare or community-based setting.

In-depth knowledge of the UK welfare system, housing laws, safeguarding protocols, and community support frameworks.

Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to manage sensitive situations effectively.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications

Training in mediation or conflict resolution.

Certification in Mental Health First Aid.

Experience supporting refugees, care leavers, or individuals with mental health needs.
