Job Description

Join Our Dedicated Mental Health Team in Scarborough

Are you a seasoned Registered Nurse or just starting out in your career? This role offers a rewarding chance to prioritize patient-centered care, where you’ll have the resources and time to truly impact lives on a daily basis.

We are also eager to hear from Student Nurses set to qualify within the next three months. You’ll receive comprehensive training and a structured Preceptorship program designed to boost your skills and confidence in this specialized field.

About Our Organization

We are the NHS Trust dedicated to Mental Health and Learning Disabilities across County Durham and Darlington, Teesside, North Yorkshire, York, and Selby. Our mission spans from preventive education to emergency support and specialized treatment. We collaborate closely with patients, local communities, and external partners to ensure everyone feels secure, heard, valued, and supported.

At our core, we foster recovery for those who turn to us. We believe in inclusive decision-making, where input from patients, families, and carers shapes their care experience. Together, we strive for improved mental wellbeing in our region by innovating and partnering to deliver essential services where they’re needed most.

The Role: Community Mental Health Nurse

We are seeking a passionate individual with a strong interest in adult mental health to become part of our vibrant Scarborough Integrated Community team. You’ll embody our Trust’s core values every day, collaborating with patients, their loved ones, external organizations, and multidisciplinary colleagues.

As a key team player, you’ll build strong connections with partners and stakeholders, opening doors for professional advancement and innovative practices. Expect ongoing guidance from our tight-knit, encouraging leadership, with the service running from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you’ll deliver care to people facing mental health challenges, often alongside other complexities or risks. Your focus will include offering short, psychology-based interventions while managing a patient caseload. Duties encompass administering depot injections, conducting preliminary evaluations, handling on-call shifts, and participating in triage processes.

You will work hand-in-hand with service users across various age groups and needs, as well as their support networks. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential, along with experience in overseeing intricate cases through coordinated efforts with other providers. This role will deepen your expertise in psychological approaches, social support strategies, and overall care planning.

We emphasize a dedication to elevating care standards and participating in improvement initiatives. You’ll benefit from consistent managerial oversight, clinical mentoring, and tools for effective caseload handling.

Given the community-based nature of the work, independent travel across the area is required, including access to a vehicle for work-related purposes. We can explore reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010 if needed.

Essential Requirements and Checks

This position requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 to review any prior convictions, ensuring safety for all involved.

We welcome applications from those needing Skilled Worker sponsorship. All candidates will be evaluated equally, but please note that from April 6, 2017, entry clearance applicants must provide criminal record certificates from countries where they’ve lived for 12+ months in the last decade. Adult dependents over 18 are included in this. For details, check the guidance on criminal records checks for overseas applicants.

Additionally, you must hold current UK professional registration. More information is available on the NHS Careers website.
