About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to join our Neuropsychiatry team at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), which accepts referrals from across the UK. This role provides the opportunity to deliver specialist CBT interventions for patients with complex neurological conditions, functional neurological disorders, and medically unexplained symptoms.
You will be part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team, delivering both individual and group therapy, while contributing to service development, research, and professional training opportunities.
This is an ideal role for therapists wishing to expand their clinical expertise in neuropsychiatry, develop their psychotherapy and research skills, and progress in an academic health setting.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist psychological assessment and CBT interventions for neuropsychiatric patients, including complex neurological and functional disorders.
- Deliver therapy in both in-patient and out-patient settings at NHNN.
- Act as a consultative resource to medical and nursing staff across the trust on behavioural and psychological care.
- Support the education and professional development of the multidisciplinary team in relation to complex neuropsychiatric conditions.
- Participate in research, audits, and service development projects.
- Maintain high standards of professional and ethical practice, including safeguarding and risk management.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Registration
Essential:
- Honours degree in psychology or a registered/recorded qualification in psychology, nursing, social work, or occupational therapy.
- Entry-level psychotherapy qualification recognised by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies
- CBT training or equivalent (e.g., ENB650, Diploma/MSc in CBT, or portfolio of supervised specialist practice).
- BABCP registration with evidence of continuing professional development

Experience & Skills
Essential:
- Experience providing specialist psychotherapy assessment and treatment for patients with complex psychological needs.
- Ability to conduct assessments, interpret complex clinical data, and integrate information from multiple sources.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deliver sensitive information to patients, families, and colleagues.
- Capacity to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, contributing to team cohesion and service delivery.
- Ability to manage emotionally challenging situations, including patients with trauma, abuse, or self-harming behaviour.
Desirable:
- Experience supervising junior staff or trainees in psychotherapy.
- Involvement in research or audit initiatives.
