About the Role
Aberystwyth University is expanding its Healthcare Education provision as part of its mission to meet the workforce and community needs of Mid-Wales. We are seeking a Clinical Skills Lecturer Practitioner (Registered Nurse – Adult Field) to join the team and contribute to the delivery of innovative nursing education.
This role is designed for practitioners who wish to maintain a clinical practice role while also supporting teaching and learning in higher education. You will play a key part in teaching and developing clinical skills and simulation-based education across a range of programmes, including:
BSc Adult Nursing and Mental Health Nursing (full-time and part-time)
Return to Nursing Practice (Adult Field)
Level 4 Certificate in Healthcare Studies
You will work closely with colleagues, local health boards, and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality education that reflects both NMC standards and the needs of healthcare services in Wales.
Main Responsibilities
Teach clinical skills and simulation to undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students.
Act as a module coordinator, overseeing planning, delivery, and assessment.
Support curriculum development in collaboration with academic staff, students, and stakeholders.
Provide supervision, assessment, and mentorship to students in both classroom and practice learning settings.
Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge and meet NMC revalidation requirements.
Act as a professional role model, upholding NMC standards and demonstrating integrity, leadership, and compassion.
Develop and publish scholarly work related to nursing education.
Work with the Clinical Skills Lead, Simulation Lead, and wider teaching team to enhance the student learning experience.
Support placement learning opportunities and student progression.
Contribute to university projects, open days, and events as required.
Promote equality, diversity, inclusion, sustainability, and bilingual learning.
About You – Essential Criteria
Registered Nurse with the NMC (Adult field).
Nursing degree.
Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Significant clinical experience across a variety of healthcare settings.
Experience in clinical skills and/or simulation teaching.
Experience supervising and assessing healthcare students.
Strong knowledge of NMC standards for pre-registration nursing education.
Understanding of the Once for Wales 2020 core curriculum.
Skilled in teaching, coaching, presenting, and facilitating learning.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
Ability to work within a bilingual environment (minimum Welsh Level A0 – ability to understand the bilingual nature of the University).
Desirable Criteria
Master’s degree (or willingness to work towards).
PhD or willingness to work towards.
Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
Teaching qualification (or willingness to obtain).
Welsh language skills at Level B2 (spoken and written).
