Job Description

Shape the Future of Clinical Research Through Partnership

The University of Reading is seeking a Clinical Research Partnership Manager to play a pivotal role in strengthening and expanding its strategic collaboration with the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RBFT).

This role sits at the heart of the University’s Agriculture, Food & Health research theme, supporting world-leading, cross-disciplinary research that addresses global challenges in health, wellbeing, disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. By working across academic and clinical environments, you will help turn high-quality ideas into funded, impactful clinical research projects that benefit patients and communities in Berkshire and beyond.

Your Role and Contribution

Working closely with academics, clinicians, and external partners, you will:

  • Support the development and growth of collaborative clinical research across the University–NHS partnership
  • Enable the creation of pre-clinical, clinical, and patient-centred research projects
  • Advise and support researchers in the development, writing, and submission of competitive research funding proposals
  • Manage a varied portfolio of projects, balancing competing priorities and deadlines
  • Provide guidance on clinical research governance, ethics, and patient and public involvement (PPI)
  • Act as a key connector between University researchers, NHS colleagues, and wider external collaborators
  • Contribute to increasing research income and partnership-led impact

What You Will Bring

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team
  • Confidence managing multiple projects under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of UK and international clinical research funding mechanisms
  • Experience supporting the development or submission of clinical research funding applications
  • A strong understanding of clinical research governance, ethical approval processes, and patient and public involvement
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across academic and clinical settings

Working Environment and Benefits

You will join a supportive team of Research Development Managers working across the Agriculture, Food & Health theme, alongside colleagues from other research areas.

The role is primarily based at the University’s Whiteknights campus, a nationally recognised green campus that has received 15 consecutive Green Flag Awards. You will also spend time at the RBFT London Road site, which is within easy walking distance and well served by public transport.

The University offers:

  • 26 days annual leave, plus 8 additional closure days (including bank holidays)
  • A strong flexible working policy
  • A collaborative and inclusive professional environment
