Job Description

About the Department

The Department of Neuromuscular Diseases is internationally recognised for excellence in both clinical care and translational research across spinal cord and neuromuscular disorders. Our multidisciplinary teams bring together clinicians, geneticists, imaging scientists, and laboratory researchers with a shared mission: to understand disease mechanisms and translate discoveries into effective therapies.

Our work has a direct impact on conditions such as Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), motor neurone disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and other inherited and acquired neuromuscular disorders.

About the Fellowship

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Research Fellow to join the research group led by Professor Mary Reilly, following the award of a major four-year grant from Muscular Dystrophy UK for the project Trial Readiness in Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (TRANSFORM-CMT).

This role sits at the interface of clinical neurology, advanced imaging, and data science. The fellowship focuses on optimising a highly sensitive MRI fat-fraction outcome measure, using emerging artificial intelligence technologies to improve accuracy, reliability, and efficiency in clinical trials for CMT.

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Research Fellow, you will:

  • Contribute to the development and validation of advanced MRI fat-fraction outcome measures
  • Work closely with physicists, clinicians, geneticists, bioinformaticians, trial coordinators, and data managers
  • Recruit, assess, and clinically evaluate patients participating in MRI studies at UCL
  • Receive structured training in inherited neuropathies, clinical outcome measures, MRI analysis, and genetic interpretation
  • Use AI-based software tools to analyse MRI fat-fraction data
  • Coordinate data collection and management across six collaborating UK research centres
  • Support high-quality research delivery in accordance with clinical governance and ethical standards
  • You will also be supported in developing your academic and clinical research profile within a world-leading neurological research environment.
