Job Description
About the Department
The Department of Neuromuscular Diseases is internationally recognised for excellence in both patient care and translational research across spinal cord and neuromuscular conditions. Our multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, geneticists, neuroscientists, and data specialists work together to uncover disease mechanisms and accelerate the development of therapies that improve outcomes for people living with neurological disorders, including Charcot–Marie–Tooth disease (CMT), motor neurone disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and clinically trained Clinical Research Fellow to join Professor Mary Reilly’s research group following the award of a prestigious four-year grant from Muscular Dystrophy UK. This post forms part of the TRANSFORM-CMT (Trial Readiness in Charcot–Marie–Tooth disease) programme.
The project focuses on advancing a quantitative MRI fat-fraction outcome measure, currently the most sensitive and reliable biomarker across multiple forms of CMT. Recent developments in artificial intelligence–assisted MRI acquisition and analysis allow us to enhance accuracy, consistency, and speed, improving readiness for future clinical trials.
Your Role
As a Clinical Research Fellow, you will play a central role in delivering this nationally coordinated study. Working within a collaborative, high-impact research environment, you will:
- Support optimisation of MRI outcome measures using AI-enabled technologies
- Clinically recruit and assess patients participating in MRI studies at UCL
- Receive training in MRI fat-fraction analysis and AI-based image interpretation
- Work closely with physicists, trial coordinators, geneticists, bioinformaticians, and clinicians
- Coordinate data collection and quality assurance across six UK research centres
- Contribute to data collation, management, and reporting for multi-site studies
- You will receive structured training in inherited neuropathies, clinical outcome measures, genetic analysis, and research methodology, supporting your academic and clinical development.
- An Honorary Clinical Contract with UCLH NHS Trust will be required, subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
- Funding and Duration
- Start date: 01 August 2026
- Funding: One year initially, with a strong expectation of extension for up to two additional years
- Funder: Muscular Dystrophy UK
About You
By the time you take up this post, you will:
- Be a GMC-registered Medical Practitioner licensed to practise in the UK
