About the Role
Imperial College London is seeking a Clinical Research Fellow in Vaccinology to support and lead the development of novel vaccine candidates through early-phase clinical trials. This role will focus on mRNA vaccine safety, efficacy, and immune-biology, contributing to both industry- and investigator-led studies aimed at preventing and controlling infectious diseases.
Working with Professor Marta Boffito and Professor Robin Shattock, you will play a key role in ensuring trials meet ethical and regulatory requirements. The post also offers opportunities to present research at national and international conferences, contribute to high-impact publications, and potentially pursue a higher degree (MD/PhD).
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated physician interested in developing expertise in clinical trials and vaccine development, while making a meaningful impact in global health.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to trial design, protocol development, and data collection planning.
Recruit, consent, and enrol study participants.
Conduct clinical assessments, sample collection, and data management.
Monitor participant safety, including managing adverse events.
Maintain effective communication with participants throughout trials.
Support and train study teams to ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
Develop personal research interests in microbiology, immunology, and vaccinology.
Contribute to new, embedded research initiatives within ongoing studies.
Hold an honorary clinical contract with the relevant NHS Trust(s) and provide patient care aligned with clinical experience.
About You
Essential Requirements:
Medical degree with full GMC registration and MRCP (or equivalent).
ALS certification.
Clinical experience in internal medicine and infection-related specialties.
Commitment to clinical research and patient safety in trials.
Excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
Desirable Requirements:
Trainee in infection/immunology or IMT3 with MRCP.
Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), research governance, and current vaccinology developments.
Previous experience in vaccine or infection-related clinical research.
Skills in data analysis, scientific writing, and interest in academic progression.
