Bladder and Bowel Nurse (x2 posts) – Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare is recruiting two Bladder and Bowel Nurses to join our specialist service. We currently have vacancies within both our Southampton and South East Hampshire localities. Successful applicants will play a vital role in their local multidisciplinary community team while also contributing to the wider Hampshire Community Bladder and Bowel Service.

About the Role

We welcome applications from nurses who either:

  • Already hold additional qualifications in continence care, or
  • Have a strong interest in developing expertise in this specialist area.

Full training and professional development opportunities will be provided.

As a Bladder and Bowel Nurse, you will:

  • Deliver holistic, patient-centred care across a range of settings, including community clinics, patient homes, and care homes.
  • Undertake specialist assessments to understand individual needs.
  • Develop conservative treatment and management plans designed to promote independence and improve quality of life.
  • Work closely with unregistered and junior staff, supporting their learning and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and partner services to ensure seamless care pathways for patients.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out specialist holistic assessments for patients referred with bladder and bowel conditions.
  • Develop personalised treatment and management plans.
  • Support with triaging incoming referrals.
  • Refer patients appropriately to other services where required.
  • Build strong working relationships with local healthcare providers to support joined-up care.
  • Line manage and supervise junior and unregistered team members.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Essential: NMC Registered Nurse (willing to undertake a continence course leading to a specialist post).

Desirable: Post-registration training in continence care.

Experience

  • Essential: Experience and understanding of continence care, with a holistic and patient-centred approach.

Additional Information

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check
This role requires a DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
