About the Role

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) across County Durham and Darlington are looking for a committed and forward-thinking CAMHS Clinician to join our South Durham Getting More Help Team.

This role is ideal for a registered mental health or learning disability nurse who is passionate about supporting children and young people experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties. You will work directly with young people and their families, offering evidence-based assessments and interventions that genuinely make a difference to recovery and long-term wellbeing.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of a skilled and supportive multi-disciplinary team (MDT), you will:

  • Carry out comprehensive mental health assessments for children and young people
  • Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions for emotional, behavioural, and psychological difficulties
  • Work collaboratively with families and carers to support recovery and resilience
  • Contribute actively to MDT discussions, care planning, and risk management
  • Provide clinical supervision where appropriate and support learners in practice
  • Participate in quality improvement and service development initiatives
  • Maintain safe, ethical, and effective practice in line with clinical governance standards
  • This is a demanding but deeply rewarding role, requiring resilience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people.

Who We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications

Current NMC registration as:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN/RNMH), or
  • Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD), or
  • RNSC (CAMHS pathway only)
  • Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Recognised Practice Supervisor / Assessor qualification (or willingness to complete within 6 months)
  • Trained in Clinical Supervision or willingness to work towards this within 6 months

Experience & Skills

Essential Experience

  • Minimum 18 months post-qualification experience, including completion of preceptorship or competency framework
  • Working directly with children, young people, and their families/carers
  • Experience within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Supervising or assessing students in clinical practice
  • Contributing to quality improvement activities

Knowledge & Professional Practice

You will demonstrate strong working knowledge of:

  • Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
  • Safeguarding children and young people
  • Clinical risk assessment and management
  • Clinical governance and safe care delivery
  • Psychological models of assessment and intervention
  • Medicines management, including administration of injections
