The Opportunity
Henley Business School invites applications for an Associate Professor in Accounting to join its Department of Finance and Accounting on a permanent basis. We are looking for an ambitious academic with a strong and developing international research profile, capable of contributing original, high‑quality scholarship to the accounting discipline.
This role offers the opportunity to combine impactful research with engaging teaching and meaningful academic leadership within one of the UK’s leading business schools. The successful candidate will play an active role in shaping the Department’s research culture, teaching portfolio, and academic community.
About the Department
The Department of Finance and Accounting comprises two complementary areas:
- Finance, based within the ICMA Centre
Accounting
This appointment sits within the Accounting area, where the post holder will contribute across research, teaching, and academic citizenship, aligned with the expectations of an Associate Professor role.
Key Responsibilities
The Associate Professor will be expected to:
- Lead and deliver independent, high‑quality research in accounting, with outputs targeted at top‑ranked international journals
- Demonstrate research leadership through the development of a clear and ambitious research agenda
- Actively pursue external research funding, including competitive grant applications
- Teach and convene modules across undergraduate and pre‑experience postgraduate programmes in Accounting, as agreed with the Head of Department
- Contribute to teaching in areas such as Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, and Data Analytics in Accounting (experience in these areas is highly desirable)
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students, including doctoral candidates where appropriate
- Undertake academic leadership, administrative responsibilities, and broader academic citizenship activities that support the Department and School
Essential Requirements
Applicants must be able to demonstrate:
- A completed PhD in Accounting, Finance, or Economics
- A strong record of peer‑reviewed research publications in leading accounting journals
- Experience of teaching at university level across accounting‑related subjects
- Demonstrable expertise or experience in data analytics within accounting
- The ability to contribute positively to a collaborative and inclusive academic environment
