This is an excellent opportunity for personal and professional growth within the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH).

As an Assistant Service Accountant, you will be responsible for producing monthly management accounts and providing financial support to operational managers across both clinical and non-clinical services at ward, departmental, and directorate level.

This is a key role in working with both finance colleagues and operational teams to ensure effective financial management that supports the delivery of high-quality patient services in the Manchester Care Group Division.

Please note: This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship unless you meet the criteria for temporary exemption under the immigration rule changes introduced on 22/07/2025. Candidates already on a Skilled Worker visa prior to 04/04/2024 with continuous sponsorship may be considered under separate provisions.

Main duties and responsibilities

As Assistant Service Accountant, you will:

Provide timely financial information and analysis to operational managers each month.

Review and monitor actual income and expenditure within the Trust’s ledger system.

Prepare and input journals, accruals, and budget virements to ensure accurate management accounts.

Hold independent meetings with budget holders and service managers.

Support directorate teams to ensure timely reporting and recovery of income.

Maintain the integrity of financial and staffing budgets.

Deputies for the Service Accountant and Finance Business Partner where required.

Support projects, training, and financial procedures as necessary.

Person specification

Qualifications (essential):

Application form completed clearly and accurately.

GCSE Maths and English at grade C (or equivalent).

AAT qualification or equivalent/trainee accountant.

Experience (essential):

Previous experience in a finance role.

Experience using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.

Experience using a financial computer system.

Skills (essential):

Strong numerical and analytical skills.

Ability to meet deadlines.

Flexible team player.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.
