About the Role
The History Department at the University of Sussex invites applications for a fixed-term Assistant Professor in Modern History.
The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and research in nineteenth- and twentieth-century history, delivering lectures, seminars, dissertation supervision, and participating in student support, marking, and assessment activities.
You will join an innovative and collaborative department known for its interdisciplinary approach and global perspective in historical research and teaching. The department ranked 4th in the UK for Impact in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF).
About You
You will hold a PhD in Modern History (or have equivalent experience) and bring expertise in one or more of the following areas, which are particularly desirable for this role:
History of science
History of emotions
Global or connected histories
You should have:
An emerging record of scholarly publications
Teaching experience within UK higher education
Strong communication skills and the ability to support diverse student groups
Experience supervising undergraduate dissertations (desirable)
A collaborative, team-oriented approach to departmental work
