Job Description

NHS Forth Valley is delighted to offer an outstanding opportunity for a dedicated Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) to become part of our dynamic Advanced Practice Team in the Emergency Department.

This role focuses on providing independent, high-quality care to patients (aged 1 year and above) presenting with minor injuries, working across both the main Emergency Department and our dedicated Minor Injuries Unit. It’s an ideal position for someone enthusiastic about minor injury management who is keen to advance their expertise toward full advanced practice.

If you’re not yet operating at an advanced level, we provide full backing to complete the necessary university-accredited modules and training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver autonomous assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and discharge for minor injury cases.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective patient care.
  • Contribute to teaching, mentorship, quality improvement initiatives, and service development.
  • Demonstrate strong clinical decision-making and evidence-based practice.

What We are Looking For

We welcome applications from both experienced ENPs and those ready to train toward this level.

For fully Qualified Band 7 Advanced ENP Applicants:

Completion of Higher Education Institution (HEI)-accredited courses in:

  • Minor Injuries (or equivalent)
  • Independent Prescribing (V300 or equivalent)
  • Clinical Examination and Advanced History Taking

Clear evidence of independent/autonomous practice and sound clinical judgment

Strong commitment to lifelong learning, developing colleagues, and improving services

Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and teamwork abilities

For those Applying as a Trainee Advanced ENP (Band 6/7 progression pathway):

  • Qualified ENP with completion of an HEI-accredited Minor Injuries course (or equivalent) as a minimum requirement

Willingness and enthusiasm to undertake further training in:

  • Independent Prescribing (V300)
  • Clinical Examination and Advanced History Taking
  • Proven dedication to personal, team, and service development
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills

Note: Trainee positions fall under Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions, which outlines specific pay and banding arrangements during training periods. From 1 April 2026, the standard full-time working week under Agenda for Change will reduce from 37 to 36 hours, with a pro-rata adjustment for part-time roles. This change includes an increase in the hourly rate to maintain equivalent take-home pay.
