Role Overview
Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and analytical Management Accountant to join its Finance team and support the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with clinical and operational teams, helping translate financial data into meaningful insight that supports informed decision-making. You will play a key role in financial reporting, forecasting, and budget management, while developing your professional skills within a supportive and forward-thinking finance function.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the production of monthly and periodic financial reports in line with Trust timetables
- Reconcile budget statements and analyse variances, identifying risks and opportunities
- Investigate discrepancies, correct data processing errors, and ensure financial accuracy
- Manipulate income and expenditure data to support forecasting and budget-setting exercises
- Validate new expenditure and contribute to business cases and investment proposals
- Work closely with budget holders and service managers, providing financial advice and support
- Contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes and reporting

Qualifications
Essential
- Degree-level education, NVQ Level 4, or equivalent professional experience
Desirable
- Studying towards AAT qualification
- Studying towards a CCAB-recognised qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA)

Experience
Essential
- Experience working within an accounting or finance department
- Experience in a financial management or specialist accounting role
- Ability to plan, prioritise, and organise workload to meet deadlines

- Experience within the NHS or wider public sector
Knowledge

- Understanding of confidentiality, data protection, and information governance
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Awareness of NHS performance priorities and organisational objectives

- Advanced Excel skills, including formulas and macros
