Job Description
Job Summary
We have an amazing opportunity for a research midwife to join our team and oversee the midwifery and gynaecology portfolios. The position is for a 12-month period to provide maternity coverage and will allow you to participate in interesting clinical trials with the potential to transform clinical practice. This unique opportunity allows the selected candidate to follow patients from recruitment to study completion, therefore the ability to create rapport with patients is crucial. Although you will not be part of the direct clinical care team, you will be able to provide support throughout the pregnancy, from antenatal to postnatal, as long as you follow the clinical trial protocol. You must be able to operate alone and handle a caseload of patients.
Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required
As a Research Midwife, you will assist the Research Team Lead in identifying studies, assessing team capacity and workloads, prioritising, assessing, managing, and recruiting patients for clinical research studies in midwifery, reproductive health, and gynaecology. The function requires a thorough understanding of trial procedures and their practical application, as well as a working knowledge of and adherence to local, national, and worldwide research regulatory requirements. You will also be accountable for your own clinical caseload and studies.
You will assist the Research Team in commercial and academic clinical trials by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating research nursing care, as well as giving assistance to patients who have been or may be enrolled into a clinical trial programme. This includes obtaining full approval for the clinical trial to proceed, collecting data, interviewing, supporting, and monitoring patients, and entering data. Phlebotomy, blood specimen processing, drug administration, and clinical observations will all be part of the job description. The position requires strong collaboration with clinicians, data managers, sponsors, research and development, and outpatient and inpatient staff.
