An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Community Midwife to join our dedicated team.
Our community midwifery teams care for a diverse range of women and families, providing high-quality midwifery care. We operate under a named midwife model, working within GP practices, children’s centres, and offering home visits. Led by the Community Matron, each team is made up of Team Leaders, Community Midwives, Maternity Support Workers, and Community Administrators. You will be well supported with a personalized orientation on joining the team.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate midwifery care using a holistic, women-centered, and evidence-based approach.
- Support, supervise, and teach less experienced staff, students, and support workers in clinical and non-clinical procedures. Serve as a practice assessor and mentor as required.
- Perform and maintain required clinical procedures competently.
- Operate clinical equipment proficiently, completing necessary training as required.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with the wider healthcare team.
- Prioritize your workload effectively to meet the needs of the service.
- Participate in the on-call rota to support women who choose to labour at home or in the Birth Centre.
- Take the lead in providing total care and support for women requesting a homebirth.
- Utilize advanced physical skills when appropriate, including suturing both at home and in hospital settings.
- Provide all relevant forms of care, including emergency interventions, in both community and hospital environments.
- Contribute to Clinical Governance by reporting serious incidents and actively participating in service development.
- Engage in parent education programs within both the hospital and community settings.

Person Specification:
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Registered Midwife on the NMC Register
- Diploma/BSc in Midwifery Studies
Desirable:
- Examination of the Newborn (NIPE)
- Mentor/Assessor training or willingness to work towards it
- Newborn Life Support Training
Experience:
Essential:
- Experience in various settings, applying all midwifery skills
- Understanding of child protection processes and the mental health act
- Knowledge of current and emerging healthcare issues
- Experience in caring for at-risk/socially excluded service users
Desirable:
- Experience in attending home births
Additional Criteria:
Essential:
- Ability to prioritize workload effectively
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate at all levels within the Department and Directorate
- Empathy and communication skills when discussing treatment with women and families
- Full UK/EU driving license
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required
