Job Description
UHB Paediatrics (0-16 years): Where Passion and Career Unite!
Our High Dependency Service is expanding, and we’re seeking skilled nurses to join our growing team.
University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) Children’s Service is eager to hear from Paediatric Nurses with High Dependency experience, as well as Adult Nurses with a Critical Care qualification who have experience working with children in emergency or critical care settings.
UHB operates a large paediatric service led by a dynamic, talented team of professionals, committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to our local community and beyond. We strive to provide positive patient experiences within a safe, family-centered environment.
Currently, we have a 4-bed Level 2 HDU at Heartlands Hospital and a stabilisation bed at Good Hope Hospital. Our team works across both sites to deliver HDU care to children, collaborating closely as an established multi-disciplinary team. Children may present with serious acute illnesses, deteriorating chronic conditions, require post-surgical care, or be stepping down from ITU. As part of this team, you will be responsible for providing safe, effective nursing care to these children and supporting your colleagues.
We value our staff and offer development opportunities to help you reach your full potential. If you’re an experienced nurse with a passion for delivering high-quality critical care, we’d love to hear from you!
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required:
We operate a 24/7 shift pattern, but we are open to discussing flexible working options to support your work-life balance.
As a Band 5 Nurse in the Paediatric High Dependency service at Heartlands & Good Hope Hospitals, you will join a highly skilled team caring for critically ill children at UHB.
You’ll work autonomously, taking responsibility and accountability for delivering safe, compassionate, and person-centered care.
Demonstrate evidence-based nursing care that upholds dignity and human rights.
Be skilled in assessing patient care needs, identifying deterioration, and escalating appropriately.
Plan, implement, and evaluate care plans without direct supervision.
Communicate effectively and maintain high-quality patient records.
Adhere to Trust policies, procedures, and the NMC Code.
Embrace a family-centered care approach, working closely with parents, carers, and children in the care process.
