About the role
We are seeking an experienced communicator to join our award-winning External Relations department!
As part of this fascinating and varied role, you will actively seek chances to increase the University’s regional, national, and international profile, reputation, and impact by publicising its achievements and successes, research, and the work of its students and staff.
You will be a highly proactive communications/public relations professional with exceptional and effective communication skills, including the ability to create and maintain positive relationships with target media, key policy and decision makers, and our internal audiences. You will have prior experience leading the delivery of compelling public relations/communications campaigns and inspiring other team members to step up and participate in order to maximise impact.
As a senior member of the PR team, you will have a strong understanding of the external and political environment, and you will be comfortable working closely with and advising the Vice-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor’s Executive on communications and policy issues and challenges, as well as engaging and influencing our key stakeholders.
You will bring to this post a proven track record of producing impactful public relations and social media activities, a flair for writing captivating and engaging text for a wide range of audiences, and the confidence and ability to provide strategic communications counsel and assistance to top internal stakeholders.
You’ll have line-management experience, as well as the abilities and knowledge to assist the team grow as we work to establish a high-performance culture. You will be a go-getter who can work well both alone and as part of a team, with a desire to take on new challenges and increase the aggregate impact of the PR team’s efforts.

This role is eligible for sponsorship by the University; however, your individual circumstances must meet the UKVI criteria, which include meeting the English Language requirement and earning the highest of either the going rate for the SOC code or the minimum salary threshold for the Skilled Worker route (£38,700 per year).
If the role is eligible but the offered wage is less than the market rate for the role, you may still be able to apply for a Skilled Worker visa.

You must be under 26 years old, a recent graduate, or in professional training. Additionally, a PhD level certification relevant to your career is required.
You hold a postdoctoral position in science or higher education.
