JOB DESCRIPTION

A Future with Purpose

At Arup, we are committed to long-term growth and meaningful social work. For over 75 years, our purpose, shared values, and collaborative approach have distinguished us and guided our efforts to make a better world.

We solve the world’s most challenging challenges and achieve what appears unattainable. We approach difficulties with curiosity and creativity, combining technology, inspiration, and rigour to achieve exceptional results.

For this opportunity, Arup can help applicants secure a Skilled Worker visa. Any offer we make is predicated on your visa application being approved.

Please be warned that due to recent pronouncements by the UK Government regarding changes to the Immigration Rules, our ability to sponsor applicants for a Skilled Worker visa may alter. We are expecting additional information from the government regarding the specifics of the reforms, particularly minimum wage requirements. If you apply for this position and require a Skilled Worker visa, we will continue to monitor the situation and its influence on the role you are looking for. We appreciate your understanding on this subject.

Please keep in mind that we can only accept one application per recruitment period, so please apply for the position that best fits your qualifications. If you decide to apply for another position, please withdraw your previous application before submitting a new one.

The Opportunity

Our Geotechnical Engineers apply their expertise to building and infrastructure projects around the world. We provide our clients with a wide range of support and consulting services for a variety of projects, including highways, rail, energy, waste, water, mining, education, sports and recreation facilities, government/commercial, and industrial structures.

As one of the world’s top building and infrastructure design consultancies, we provide customers with the innovation and technical know-how they need to consistently deliver their projects on time, on budget, and increasingly sustainably, without sacrificing quality. There will be possibilities to solve problems and create designs, as well as to specialise in fields such as numerical modelling, seismic, risk and resilience, and sustainability.

We are searching for passionate graduates to join our Ground Engineering teams in UK offices. From the start, you’ll be part of a unique community of specialists, where everyone is encouraged to pursue a professional certification and supported in their chosen career path.

You will contribute to our ability to provide effective and professional services to a diverse and high-profile client base. While you will have a lot of responsibility from the start, we will provide you opportunities to take on more as you advance and broaden your abilities and expertise.

You will be working in a multidisciplinary workplace among other ground engineering specialists of varying levels of experience. There will be opportunities to build a solid foundation in ground engineering, solve problems, and create designs, or concentrate in areas such as numerical modelling, seismic, risk and resilience, or sustainability. You will be responsible for geotechnical issues throughout the project’s lifecycle, including desk studies, ground investigations, analysis and design, carbon management, construction supervision and monitoring, and asset management.

You will have the option to work in multidisciplinary project teams with professionals from different Arup specialties. You will support the team in your region, and we may occasionally ask you to work in any of our offices. Our structure allows us to encourage and support opportunities to share workloads, take on overseas assignments, learn new skills, and expand your network throughout the firm.

Is this the appropriate role for you?

Do you have:

  • Degree qualified to a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline, at 2.1 or above (predicted or accomplished).
  • Enthusiasm for a career in ground engineering, supported by knowledge and understanding of our industry and profession.
  • Excellent engineering knowledge combined with a solid understanding of sustainable development principles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work well in a team, and have an analytical mentality.
  • The ability to work on your own initiative and be proactive in order to improve existing ways of working.
  • Understand how to apply Eurocode principles to geotechnical and structural design.
  • Demonstrate a strong working understanding of Microsoft Office and a desire to master new applications that uses 3D design and automation.
  • Experience in coding languages, finite element software, or digital design would be useful.
  • Knowledge of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, carbon management, or Planetary Boundaries might be useful.

We’re searching for folks who are curious and eager to change how they think and operate. Our power stems from the way we value, share, and connect our various experiences, viewpoints, and ideas. At Arup, you are part of an outstanding group that fosters originality. If you can share your knowledge and ideas while encouraging others to do the same, and you want to provide outstanding services to clients, we’d like to hear from you.

You should be able to begin this opportunity in September 2024.
