About the Opportunity

Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is seeking an experienced and motivated Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join the Network Services team in Wirral.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Breast Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and play a key role in introducing and developing a new clinical approach for the review of patients receiving CDK4 inhibitor treatments.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced cancer practitioner who wants to contribute to service development while providing expert, patient-centred care. The post holder will combine advanced clinical practice with leadership, education, service improvement and multidisciplinary working.

You will be expected to work confidently and independently while maintaining strong professional relationships across different clinical teams and services.

Key Responsibilities

As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, you will provide expert clinical leadership and contribute to the continued development of the breast cancer service.

Your responsibilities will include:

Clinical Practice

– Provide advanced, specialist nursing care to patients with cancer and their carers.
– Assess patients holistically and develop care according to their individual and changing needs.
– Use advanced clinical knowledge to support treatment decisions, symptom management and ongoing care.
– Provide specialist advice relating to cancer treatment, including treatment-related complications and side effects.
– Support appropriate clinical decision-making around patient admission and discharge.
– Work autonomously while recognising when collaboration with other professionals is required.
– Maintain high standards of evidence-based clinical practice.

Leadership and Service Development

– Act as a visible clinical role model and promote high standards of patient care.
– Provide professional leadership to colleagues within the service.
– Help develop and improve patient pathways.
– Contribute to the ongoing development of the nursing service.
– Lead or participate in quality improvement projects and service initiatives.
– Support the implementation of changes designed to improve patient experience and clinical outcomes.
– Work with the wider MDT to ensure services meet relevant national safety and quality standards.
– Contribute to work programmes associated with national cancer quality and peer-review requirements.

Education and Professional Support

– Provide specialist advice and support to clinical teams across the Trust and wider network.
– Contribute to the education and professional development of nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues.
– Mentor and encourage other practitioners.
– Promote a culture of learning, professional development and continuous improvement.
– Share specialist knowledge to support high-quality cancer care across the organisation.

Patient and Family Support

A key part of this role will be supporting patients and their families throughout their cancer journey.

You will provide expert guidance and help patients understand their treatment and care options. You will also support their physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs through appropriate assessment and personalised care planning.

Essential Knowledge and Professional Expertise

Applicants should have substantial specialist experience and demonstrate strong knowledge across advanced clinical practice.

You should have:

– Significant experience working in cancer care.
– Advanced understanding of clinical pathophysiology.
– Knowledge of invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
– Understanding of NHS clinical governance, national standards and relevant policies.
– Experience applying evidence-based practice and critically evaluating research.

– Understanding of oncology treatments and their potential adverse effects.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must hold the appropriate professional registration and meet the advanced practice requirements for the post.

Essential qualifications and training include:

– Relevant professional healthcare registration.
– MSc in Advanced Nursing Practice or Advanced Clinical Practice.
– Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) qualification/module and relevant SACT experience.
– Non-medical prescribing qualification with evidence demonstrating clinical competency.
– Post-registration qualification in cancer, palliative care or a related speciality.
– Recognised leadership qualification.
– Evidence of ongoing professional development.
– Advanced communication skills training.
– Recognised teaching qualification.
– Advanced Life Support qualification where participation in MET cover forms part of the role.
– IO needle insertion competency where participation in MET cover is required.

Desirable Qualifications

The following would be advantageous:

– Qualification or further training in research.
– Psychological skills training at Level 2 or above.
