About the Opportunity

UWE Bristol is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Teaching Technician in Geotechnical Engineering to join the technical team within the School of Engineering.

This is a permanent position supporting practical teaching, laboratory activities and engineering-related projects. You will work closely with academic and programme teams to help deliver high-quality learning experiences and contribute to the development of practical engineering education.

Your Role

As Senior Teaching Technician, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day operation and support of specialist geotechnical engineering laboratories.

Your responsibilities will include:

– Managing and maintaining specialist laboratory facilities and equipment.
– Supporting practical teaching sessions and student activities.
– Demonstrating technical procedures and providing hands-on instruction.
– Helping students develop practical engineering skills and confidence.
– Supporting student projects and research activities.
– Working with academic colleagues to improve practical teaching and learning.
– Ensuring laboratory equipment and working areas are maintained appropriately.
– Contributing your technical knowledge to the development of engineering education.
– Supporting a safe, effective and professional laboratory environment.

You will play an important part in connecting academic learning with real-world engineering practice.

About You

We are looking for a technically capable professional with experience in a geotechnical engineering or related technical environment.

You should be confident working with specialist equipment and able to explain practical techniques clearly to students and colleagues. Experience of laboratory-based work, engineering projects, technical instruction or a similar environment would be highly valuable.

You will ideally have:

– A degree-level qualification in a relevant engineering or technical discipline.
– Appropriate technical or industrial experience.
– Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
– Practical knowledge relevant to geotechnical engineering.
– Experience of operating, maintaining or managing technical equipment.
– The ability to demonstrate procedures and provide clear practical guidance.
– Strong communication and organisational skills.
– A genuine interest in supporting students and developing future engineers.
