About the Role

NHS Forth Valley is looking for enthusiastic and motivated Midwives to join its Women & Children’s Directorate. This is an excellent opportunity for midwives who want to develop their practice while delivering compassionate, holistic care to women, babies and families throughout the maternity journey.

The successful candidates will work as autonomous practitioners within an integrated team model. You will have the opportunity to provide care across different maternity settings, including community services, midwifery teams and hospital-based departments.

Our maternity services are continuing to develop in line with the recommendations of the National Best Start Project, creating opportunities for staff to contribute to the ongoing improvement of maternity care.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Midwife with NHS Forth Valley, you will:

– Provide safe, individualised and holistic midwifery care.
– Support women and families throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.
– Work confidently as an autonomous practitioner while contributing to a wider multidisciplinary team.
– Deliver care across both community and acute hospital environments.
– Contribute to the continued development and improvement of maternity services.
– Maintain high professional standards and promote positive experiences for women and families.
– Demonstrate commitment, resilience and enthusiasm for developing your clinical practice.

Flexible Working Opportunities

A range of shift patterns is available to support different working preferences. Current options include:

– 7.5-hour shifts
– 10.5-hour shifts
– 12-hour shifts

This provides greater flexibility while supporting effective staffing across maternity services.

Our Maternity Environment

NHS Forth Valley provides care for around 3,000 births each year across a geographically diverse area incorporating both urban communities and rural locations.

Our hospital maternity facilities are located within an attractive woodland setting, while community hubs allow midwives to provide services closer to where women and families live.

The alongside midwifery unit is well established and includes two birthing pools. The labour ward provides a calm environment designed to support women during labour, with facilities including:

– Portable CTG monitoring
– Aromatherapy
– A variety of birthing equipment
– Dedicated spaces designed to promote a relaxed birth experience

Secondment Information

Existing permanent NHS employees who are interested in a secondment should discuss the opportunity with their substantive line manager before applying.

A completed and signed secondment request form is required before interview. The form and relevant secondment policy are available through the HR/Recruitment intranet.

Candidates should bring the approved form to their interview as evidence that the secondment has been agreed.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must meet the essential criteria outlined in the official job description and person specification.

You should be able to demonstrate the professional knowledge, clinical skills and personal qualities required to provide safe and effective midwifery care.

PVG Membership

The successful applicant will be required to become a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme, as the duties of the role involve working with vulnerable people.

UK Visa Sponsorship

Applicants who need permission to work in the UK should check whether they meet the current eligibility requirements for the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.

NHS Forth Valley may be able to provide sponsorship for eligible roles where the position satisfies the applicable salary and immigration requirements. Sponsorship is not automatically guaranteed and will be considered on an individual basis during the recruitment and pre-employment process.
