About the Role

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an experienced mental health professional to join its team at The Anchorage in Whitby.

This Band 6 position is suited to a registered professional who has a strong background in mental health care and can work confidently with service users, families, carers and colleagues across different disciplines.

The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality, person-centred care while taking responsibility for clinical coordination and supporting the development of other professionals and learners.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

– Assess and manage clinical risks and contribute to safe, effective care planning.
– Work closely with service users, families and carers to understand their needs and support recovery.
– Take on lead professional or care coordinator responsibilities where appropriate.
– Work as an active member of a multidisciplinary team.
– Provide clinical supervision to colleagues or groups in line with professional requirements.
– Support students and learners during practice placements through mentoring, teaching and assessment.
– Share professional knowledge through clinical teaching and training.
– Communicate sensitive or complex information clearly with service users, carers and healthcare professionals.
– Apply relevant mental health legislation and professional standards in day-to-day practice.
– Contribute to continuous improvement in the quality and effectiveness of services.

Essential Qualifications and Professional Requirements

Applicants should have:

– Current professional registration with the appropriate recognised regulatory body.
– Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
– At least 18 months of post-qualification experience, including completion of the relevant preceptorship or competency framework.
– Recognised sign-off mentor, clinical educator or equivalent status, or the ability to achieve this within the agreed timeframe.
– For registered nurses, an appropriate teaching and assessing qualification such as MIP, FLIP, ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice or City & Guilds 730 Teaching in Adult Education, where applicable, with completion within the required timescale.
– Competence in literacy, numeracy and IT at Level 2 or an equivalent standard.

Desirable Qualifications

The following would be advantageous:

– A relevant postgraduate qualification.
– A qualification in leadership or management.

Experience We Are Looking For

You should be able to demonstrate substantial experience of working with people experiencing mental ill health within a care setting.

Experience should include:

– Working collaboratively with service users and their families or carers.
– Delivering appropriate clinical supervision.
– Supporting, mentoring or facilitating students in practice settings.
– Working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Experience of providing mental health services in a community-based environment would be an additional advantage.

Knowledge and Professional Understanding

Candidates should have a sound understanding of:

– Clinical risk assessment and risk management and how these principles are applied in practice.
– Psychological approaches and models used in mental health care and treatment.
– Key legislation relevant to mental health services, including the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.

Knowledge of the Trust’s Quality Improvement System (QIS) would be desirable.

Key Skills

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate the ability to:

– Communicate complicated and sensitive matters appropriately with service users, families, carers and multidisciplinary colleagues.
– Work constructively within a multidisciplinary environment.
– Coordinate care and undertake lead professional duties when required.
– Deliver effective clinical supervision, education, training and assessment.
– Apply professional judgement when managing clinical situations.

Venepuncture skills would be an advantage.

Registration

Applicants must hold current professional registration in the UK with the relevant professional body.
