Job Description
Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is inviting applications for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join its specialist Eating Disorders Service based in Norton. This permanent full-time role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated Occupational Therapist to develop their clinical skills within a supportive multidisciplinary mental health setting.
The successful applicant will work within a specialist day unit supporting adults experiencing eating disorders and related occupational difficulties. The role is ideal for newly qualified or early-career Occupational Therapists seeking experience in mental health services and specialist therapeutic interventions.
About the Role
As part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will deliver occupational therapy assessments and interventions under the supervision of experienced senior clinicians, including a Band 7 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist. You will support service users in improving independence, daily functioning, emotional wellbeing, and recovery outcomes.
The team actively encourages professional growth and offers ongoing clinical supervision, mentorship, and development opportunities.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct occupational therapy assessments for adults with eating disorders
Deliver therapeutic interventions tailored to individual recovery goals
Support service users experiencing occupational disruption and mental health challenges
Maintain accurate clinical records and prepare professional reports
Work collaboratively with carers, families, and multidisciplinary teams
Participate in risk assessment and care planning processes
Contribute to service development and evidence-based clinical practice
Adapt therapeutic approaches according to patient needs and clinical judgement
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
- Degree or recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy
Current or pending registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Skills & Knowledge
- Understanding of professional standards and occupational therapy practice
Awareness of mental health conditions and their impact on daily living
Strong communication, observation, and report-writing skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Compassionate and person-centred approach to patient care
Ability to manage workload effectively and work under pressure
Experience
- Clinical placement or postgraduate experience across different practice areas
Experience working with mental health, autism, or learning disability services is desirable
Knowledge of risk assessment and evidence-based practice would be beneficial
Professional Development
