Job Description
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a dedicated and organised Medical Secretary to join the Neurology Administration Team within the Neurosciences Clinical Service Unit. This permanent Band 3 opportunity is based at Leeds General Infirmary and offers an excellent career opportunity for candidates who wish to develop their administrative and healthcare support experience within a busy NHS environment.
This full-time position involves working closely with consultant neurologists, junior doctors, and multidisciplinary teams to provide high-quality secretarial and administrative support that contributes directly to patient care.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will support the Neurology department by managing clinical correspondence, handling patient-related enquiries, and ensuring administrative processes run efficiently. The role requires strong audio typing abilities, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage a demanding workload while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Audio typing and proofreading clinic letters, medical reports, and patient correspondence
Managing consultant diaries and supporting outpatient and inpatient administration
Handling telephone calls, emails, and enquiries from patients, GPs, and healthcare professionals
Maintaining patient records and updating healthcare databases and spreadsheets
Assisting with appointment coordination, follow-ups, and discharge administration
Supporting clinical teams to ensure smooth patient pathways and timely communication
Liaising with hospital departments and external healthcare providers when necessary
Completing general office and administrative duties within the department
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- RSA II Audio Typing qualification or equivalent
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics
Essential Experience
- Previous secretarial or office administration experience
Strong audio typing and proofreading skills
Excellent telephone and communication abilities
Experience handling high volumes of enquiries professionally
Ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines under pressure
Good IT and organisational skills
