Controls Systems Engineer – Dowty Propellers(UK Visa Sponsorship)

Job Description

Dowty Propellers, part of the global GE Aerospace
organisation, is seeking a talented Controls Systems Engineer to join its growing engineering team.

This is a hands-on, project-focused engineering role within a multi-disciplinary environment, supporting the design, development, testing, and in-service performance of advanced propeller control systems used in civil and military aviation.

You will be involved in both new product development and ongoing support of in-service systems, contributing directly to safety, reliability, and performance improvements across aerospace propulsion technologies.

About the Role

As a Controls Systems Engineer, you will work closely with engineering specialists, suppliers, and customers to design and validate high-integrity control systems for propeller applications.

You will apply systems engineering and safety engineering principles to ensure that all designs meet strict aerospace regulatory standards while delivering cost-effective and reliable solutions.

The role also involves simulation, modelling, requirements management, and hands-on technical problem solving within complex aerospace systems.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Design & Engineering

  • Define control system requirements using aerospace standards such as ARP4754 and ARP4761
Develop and propose efficient, cost-effective control system design solutions
Analyse control system behaviour using simulation tools integrating propeller, engine, and airframe models
Create and manage technical requirements for control units used in subcontract manufacturing

Simulation, Testing & Analysis

  • Perform control system performance analysis using modelling and simulation tools
Support verification and validation of control system behaviour through test activities
Contribute to system-level evaluation of safety-critical aerospace control functions

Project & Technical Leadership

  • Lead technical work within integrated project teams
Provide guidance to junior engineers and support small engineering teams
Manage project scope, planning, scheduling, and budgeting activities
Anticipate risks and proactively address issues affecting delivery timelines or customer requirements

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Build strong technical relationships with customers and suppliers
Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and technical standards
Develop and maintain engineering work instructions and internal procedures
Ensure compliance with GE Aerospace policies and aerospace regulatory frameworks
Support lessons-learned initiatives and knowledge sharing across teams

Skills & Experience Required

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline
Experience in aerospace or automotive systems, embedded systems, or control systems engineering
Strong understanding of safety-critical system development
Experience in control system analysis, modelling, and simulation

Working knowledge of aerospace standards:

  • ARP4754 (Systems Development)
    ARP4761 (Safety Assessment)
    Experience using MATLAB / Simulink
Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS
    Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
    Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
