Job Description

Dowty, part of the globally recognised GE Aerospace, is seeking a detail-focused and highly organised Export & Shipping Coordinator to support international logistics and export compliance operations within its aerospace manufacturing environment.

Working as part of a fast-paced operations team, you will help ensure that products, repairs, supplier returns, and customer orders are shipped accurately, securely, and in compliance with UK customs and export regulations.

About the Position

In this role, you will oversee export and shipment preparation activities from receipt through to final dispatch. You will work with internal departments, freight partners, suppliers, and customers to ensure all goods are processed correctly and shipped on time.

The position involves handling documentation for both UK and international shipments while maintaining compliance with aerospace quality standards, customs procedures, and HMRC export requirements.

This is a fixed-term contract lasting 18 months with opportunities to gain valuable experience in aerospace logistics and export operations.

Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day duties will include:

Shipping & Export Administration

  • Prepare shipping and customs documentation for domestic and international deliveries
    Create customs invoices, airway bills, shipping instructions, and export records
    Coordinate courier and freight collections using current Incoterms guidelines
    Update export tracking logs and maintain shipment records accurately
    Provide shipment weights, dimensions, and related logistics information to carriers and customers
    Process returns, shipment corrections, RTVs (Return to Vendor), and repair shipments

Export Compliance & Customs

  • Ensure all export activities comply with UK export control and HMRC regulations
    Support exports involving military and aerospace components
    Understand and apply CPC customs codes for goods movement and declarations
    Manage documentation related to IPR entries and customs liability discharge
    Complete specialist export systems and customer processes, including:
    TMS (Exostar) for Lockheed Martin shipments
    OMB processes for Boeing shipments
    DHL Clear It procedures for road freight exports

Inventory & Operational Support

  • Assist with inventory accuracy and stock control activities
    Support stores, packing, despatch, and goods-in operations when required
    Raise concerns regarding packing, documentation, or shipment discrepancies
    Maintain compliance with internal quality procedures and audit standards
    Participate in Aircraft on Ground (AOG) emergency support activities after training

Quality & Documentation

  • Handle quality release documentation following training approval
    File and maintain shipping and release records, including off-site archiving support
    Ensure all operational data is updated accurately within internal business systems

Skills & Experience Required

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in shipping, logistics, export administration, or warehouse coordination
    Knowledge of shipping documentation and export procedures
    Good understanding of computerised business systems and data entry
    Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
    The ability to work within regulated or compliance-driven environments
    Confidence communicating with freight companies, suppliers, and customers

Desirable Experience

  • Aerospace or manufacturing industry background
    Oracle R12 system experience
    Forklift licence
    Known Consignor qualification
    Awareness of aviation security procedures

Security Clearance Requirement
