4794 – Interventional Radiologist(UK Visa Sponsorship)

Job Description

About the Opportunity

This is a chance to join a forward-looking interventional radiology service that continues to invest heavily in both people and technology. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys a varied caseload, values teamwork, and wants to contribute to the growth of a modern IR service.

You’ll be working within a department that has recently undergone major upgrades, including a high-spec interventional suite and plans for a new hybrid theatre opening in 2026. Alongside this, there is flexibility in working patterns, including options for remote reporting through home PACS access.

The Service You’ll Join

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust provides a comprehensive radiology and interventional service to a large and predominantly rural population.

The interventional radiology unit is well established and recognised as a high-performing centre. It delivers a wide range of procedures across vascular and non-vascular pathways, supported by experienced nurses, radiographers, and multidisciplinary teams.

The service also plays a central role in the wider Somerset and North Devon vascular network, covering a population of over 800,000 people.

Your Role in the Team

In this position, you will contribute to both elective and emergency interventional radiology services while helping shape future developments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing a broad range of vascular and non-vascular IR procedures
    Participating in a non-resident on-call rota (approximately 1 in 6)
Supporting multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions, including vascular and aortic cases
Running IR clinics and contributing to patient pathways
    Reporting imaging, including vascular studies
Undertaking image-guided procedures such as biopsies and drainages
    Supporting day-case interventional pathways

You’ll also have opportunities to develop subspecialty interests and contribute to service innovation.

Facilities & Technology

The department is equipped with advanced imaging and interventional tools designed to support high-quality, efficient care.

Highlights include:

  • A newly upgraded interventional radiology suite
    Advanced imaging and AI-assisted technologies
A dedicated radiology day unit, with a strong focus on day-case procedures
Plans for a new hybrid IR theatre as part of a wider surgical expansion

These resources enable the team to deliver a high volume of procedures while maintaining excellent clinical outcomes.

Working Style & Flexibility

Recognising the demands of interventional radiology, the Trust supports flexible working arrangements where possible.

Options include:

  • Hybrid working with remote reporting access
Flexible job planning to support work-life balance
A collaborative environment with strong peer support

Importantly, there is no diagnostic on-call requirement, allowing you to focus on interventional practice.

Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
Completion of radiology training (CCT/CESR) or within 6 months of interview

  • At least 3 years of interventional radiology training
Experience in both vascular and non-vascular IR
    Broad background in general radiology

Desirable:

  • Fellowship training in interventional radiology subspecialty
