Overview of the Role
Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, combined with an Honorary Consultant Physician role.
This position offers a unique opportunity to balance clinical practice, teaching, and research. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery and development of medical education while maintaining an active clinical role within University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
Clinical duties will primarily take place at Princess Royal Hospital (Haywards Heath) and the Royal Sussex County Hospital (Brighton), with potential cross-site working.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality teaching in clinical pharmacology and therapeutics across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
Contribute to curriculum development, assessment design, and innovative teaching approaches
Support and mentor medical students and trainees
Maintain an active clinical role as a Consultant Physician
Lead or contribute to research activity within the field of clinical pharmacology
Collaborate with academic and NHS colleagues to enhance education and patient care
Support the ongoing development of medical education programmes at BSMS
About You
You will be a qualified and motivated clinical academic with a strong interest in education and research.
Essential requirements include:
- Dual accreditation in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (CPT) and General Internal Medicine
Experience in medical education across different levels, including specialist training
Strong communication and teaching skills
Evidence of research activity or academic contribution
Desirable experience:
- Curriculum design and development
Assessment and examination processes
Simulation-based learning and digital education tools
Inter-professional education approaches
You should be comfortable balancing clinical responsibilities with academic and teaching commitments.
