About the Role
The University of Sussex is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking leader to take on the role of Deputy Director of Estates & Facilities Management.
In this senior position, you will oversee the planning and delivery of major estate and infrastructure projects across the University’s campus. Reporting directly to the Director of Estates, Facilities Management & Commercial Services, you will help shape and implement long-term strategies that enhance the physical environment and operational efficiency of the University.
This role requires close collaboration with internal teams and external partners, including key service providers, to ensure high-quality delivery across all aspects of estate management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic planning and delivery of estate operations across campus
Oversee major infrastructure and development projects
Work in partnership with internal stakeholders and external delivery partners
Drive improvements in estate performance, sustainability, and service quality
Develop and implement asset management and investment strategies
Ensure effective delivery of facilities management services across a diverse estate
Lead and support senior teams in achieving operational and strategic objectives
About You
You will be an experienced leader with a strong background in estates, facilities, or property management within a complex organisation.
Your profile should include:
- Extensive experience in estate planning, property development, and space management
A track record of delivering large-scale transformation programmes
Strong leadership skills with experience managing senior teams
Expertise in facilities management, whether client-side or through contracted services
Knowledge of building services and asset lifecycle management
Ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders
You will also have:
A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience
Membership of a professional body such as IWFM, RICS, or CIBSE (or willingness to work towards it)
