About the Role

This is a senior clinical opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in Learning Disabilities to take a leading role within a well-established community team on the Isle of Wight.

The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and oversight to the Community Adult Learning Disability Service, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care. The role combines strategic influence with hands-on clinical input and offers the chance to shape evolving services, including the development of a new Intensive Support Team.

Working Environment

You will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that includes:

  • Psychologists
    Specialist nurses
    Occupational therapists
    Physiotherapists
    Art therapists (newly introduced role)

The service works closely with experts by experience, carers, and partner organisations to ensure integrated and responsive care across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior clinical leadership within the multidisciplinary team.
    Ensure clarity of roles, responsibilities, and accountability in patient care.
    Promote effective communication within the team and across services.
    Oversee coordinated care planning and ensure continuity for patients.
    Support a culture of openness, safety, and continuous improvement.
    Lead risk management processes and ensure patient safety standards are upheld.
    Encourage collaborative decision-making and inclusive team working.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council
    Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent
    Eligibility for Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT in Learning Disability Psychiatry
    Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
