The Role

This position offers an opportunity to join UCL as either a Lecturer or Associate Professor in Energy Innovation, depending on experience. It is designed for a researcher who combines expertise in energy systems with advanced analytical methods such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.

You will contribute to shaping the future direction of research, teaching, and partnerships within the Energy Institute, while also playing a key role in tackling real-world energy challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop impactful research in energy innovation, AI, and data-driven systems.
    Apply advanced techniques such as machine learning, optimisation, forecasting, and simulation to energy challenges.
    Build and manage collaborations across academia, industry, and policy sectors.
    Secure research funding and lead large-scale interdisciplinary projects.
    Contribute to teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
    Supervise MSc and PhD students and support their academic development.
    Support strategic development of the Energy Institute’s research and education portfolio.

About You

You will bring:

  • A PhD in energy systems, artificial intelligence, data science, or a closely related field.
    A strong research profile with publications in leading journals.
    Experience applying AI/ML techniques to real-world energy or sustainability challenges.
    Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines and sectors.
    A commitment to high-quality teaching and mentorship.

Level-Specific Expectations

Lecturer: Early-career academic with at least 2 years of research, teaching, and supervision experience.
Associate Professor: Established academic with 5+ years’ experience, including leadership of funded research projects and PhD supervision to completion.
