Role Overview
The Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Sussex is seeking a dedicated academic to join the team on a one-year fixed-term basis. This role is designed to provide teaching and administrative support during a period of research leave within the department.
You will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching and supporting students through their academic journey. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to a vibrant academic environment known for its strong research culture and commitment to teaching excellence.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead and deliver teaching on key modules in migration studies, including:
Migration and Integration (Year 2)
Migration, Identity and Home (Year 3)
Contribute to teaching across core Sociology modules
Supervise undergraduate dissertations and provide academic guidance
Undertake marking and assessment responsibilities
Support student engagement and wellbeing
Participate in departmental activities and administrative duties
About You
You are an enthusiastic and capable educator with a strong academic background in sociology or a related field. You are committed to delivering high-quality teaching and supporting students in a diverse learning environment.
You will ideally have:
- A PhD in Sociology or a closely related discipline
Experience teaching in higher education
Knowledge or research interest in migration studies or related areas
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to work collaboratively within an academic team
