Role Overview

This is an opportunity to take on a senior clinical role where you can actively shape and expand rheumatology services across Somerset.

As a Consultant Rheumatologist, you will deliver specialist care while also contributing to service development, innovation, and clinical leadership. The Trust is open to shaping the role around your expertise and interests, offering flexibility to support both your career goals and service needs.

You’ll be working within a growing multidisciplinary team, with the chance to influence how care is delivered across both hospital and community settings.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Provide expert diagnosis and management of rheumatological conditions
    Lead outpatient clinics and support specialist nursing services
    Deliver inpatient care and respond to ward referrals
    Manage urgent cases and provide consultant-level decision making

Leadership & Service Development

  • Contribute to the design and improvement of rheumatology services
    Support quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance
    Collaborate with colleagues across the Trust to enhance patient pathways
    Take part in consultant on-call or cross-cover arrangements

Multidisciplinary Working

  • Work closely with nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists
    Support integrated care across hospital and community services
    Engage in collaborative decision-making to improve patient outcomes

What We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council and licence to practise
    MRCP qualification
    CCST/CCT in Rheumatology (or within six months of completion)

Skills & Experience

  • Strong clinical expertise in rheumatology
    Ability to lead and develop services
    Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
    Commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care
    Engagement in audit, governance, and quality improvement
