This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly formed but well-established Community Older Persons Mental Health (OPMH) service in Portsmouth. As a Specialty Doctor, you will play a key clinical role in shaping services, improving patient pathways, and working closely with Consultant Psychiatrists and multidisciplinary teams.

About the role
In this senior clinical position, you will provide expert psychiatric input across community-based services. Your work will support older adults experiencing complex mental health conditions, ensuring care is safe, coordinated, and centred around the individual.
You will have the opportunity to influence service development while delivering high-quality clinical care across a range of settings.
Key responsibilities
 Clinical leadership & patient care
- Conduct independent psychiatric assessments in the community
Run outpatient clinics and undertake home visits
Manage a defined caseload of complex older adult patients
Develop, review, and adapt personalised treatment plans
Carry out risk assessments and safeguarding duties
 Multidisciplinary working
- Chair MDT meetings, CPA reviews, and Best Interest meetings
Work closely with consultants, nurses, psychologists, and allied professionals
Ensure smooth coordination between inpatient and community services
Support continuity of care across different service settings
 Supervision & governance
- Supervise junior doctors and senior nursing staff
Participate in clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement
Contribute to service development and pathway improvement
Maintain clear, accurate clinical documentation
Working pattern
- 8 Programmed Activities (PA) per week
Community-based role across Portsmouth
Some flexibility in working arrangements
Possible future participation in out-of-hours rota (not currently included in job plan)
Who this role is for
This post is suitable for doctors who:
Hold full GMC registration
- Have experience in psychiatry, ideally older adult mental health
Meet Specialty Doctor training requirements (or equivalent experience)
Are committed to MDT working and recovery-focused care
Demonstrate strong clinical judgement and communication skills
Are willing to contribute to service development and leadership
Desirable qualifications:
- MRCPsych
Section 12 approval (or working towards it)
